I popped over to have a scout round Coventry’s Fargo Village over the weekend to bring you this little whistle-top tour and a snapshot of what’s to expect this spring…
Located in part of the city that’s still undergoing considerable regeneration, it’s off Far Gosford Street which used to be part of the red-light district when I first moved from Cardiff to neighbouring Stoke in Coventry with my husband many moons ago – pre-children.
Do you have a ‘spring’ in your step? There’s fun to be had across Warwickshire and rural West Mids and I know exactly where and when. In this week’s guide there’s a world premiere at the RSC, lots of books, comedy, art, The XX and, um, wine-tasting. Let’s, March to it…
World Book Day events: Warwick Books & Warwick Castle, Thurs March 2-Sat March 4
There’s lots going on across Warwickshire.
One of the big benefits of Muddy tottering its way into so many counties (er, 17 since you asked!) is that we have a raft of on-the-ground experts, squirrelling out the coolest, most useful stuff for the rest of us to plunder. Case in point – beach cottages. Thought about renting one this summer? Yeah me too. So allow me to lay before you a sandy smorgasbord from the Muddy regional editors – 14 beautiful beach properties for the bucket and spade brigade.
Bell & Fox are one of 6 under-the-radar British bag brands you need to know about according to fashion journos at The Daily Telegraph.
Our itinerary was slightly over ambitious for one day: a fly-by shopping trip to central London then over to Bankside for the Rauschenberg at Tate Modern & new Switch House Pyramid tower, Borough Market, The View from the Shard and a gig in a vintage 70s caravan. Phew! And as what usually happens, things don’t always go quite to plan…especially after a bottle of Prosecco, or two…
After dropping our children off at their various schools and a liquid breakfast on the 9.23am Rugby to Euston Virgin train – the four of us were in the Big Smoke in 50-mins (adv booking, £16 return each, instead of £80 – bargain!).
Fancy a day trip, lunch out or long weekend at a boutique B&B and restaurant in the Cotswolds? My neighbour Muddy Gloucestershire has just reviewed a real Cotswold Stone beauty…
If you were holding auditions for a pub-cum-sophisticated-eaterie, the kind of place that walking boots or stilettos (muddy or otherwise) would be equally welcome, where you could casually grab lunch or fine dine for a special occasion, then The Porch House in Stow-on-the-Wold would definitely stand out in casting.
Have you been to the new cafe-bar in the row of shops opposite Lawrence Sherriff boy’s grammar school in Rugby?
It’s been quietly running for three months now but I finally made it down during half-term and loved it.
Three is a small, stylishly decked out independent family-run bistro, cafe, bar and cakery with Made.com furniture. I love the navy and white colour scheme, minimalist interiors and those lampshades.
Never mind the 2017 Oscars, we’re talking about the Midlands’ rural Oscars! The winners of the 2016 Countryside Alliance Awards were announced earlier this week.
And the joint Midlands Champion in the Local Food & Drink category were…(drum roll) Hiller’s Farm Shop, Dunnington, near Alcester and Ludlow Food Centre, Shropshire.
Napton Village Stores, Post Office and Cafe in the village of Napton-on-the-Hill, near Southam won Midlands Champion in the Village shop/Post Office category.
Yay, it’s Shrove Tuesday! Today in Warwick, there’ll be Pancake Races between 1pm and 3pm as adult teams and primary school children keep up the tradition in Market Square. The Globe will be supplying hot pancakes; and Wetherspoon’s pub, The Thomas Lloyd, will be brewing hot drinks to keep everyone warm. But if you’re not flipping your own, where can you find the best pancakes in Warwickshire and beyond? Here’s 11 places to choose from…
Coffee Architects, Leamington Spa
How amazing do these blueberry and ricotta pancakes look?
As you might just have noticed, last night was the 89th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The movie industry’s finest got glammed up, came, saw and conquered… or, at least, thought they’d conquered but then realized someone had a made a humdinger of a boo-boo (more of which shortly). No time to read up extensively on the finer detail of the biggest, glitziest night on the showbiz calendar? Ta-da – here’s Muddy’s two-minute Oscars digest…
Someone had a very bad day at the office.
